Car Graphics

Q. How do I apply my graphic?

A. For detailed fitting instructions of standard car graphics please click here

Q: Will I be able to fit my own graphics?

A: The most important skill you need to fit your own graphics is patience. Plan your design. Have an extra pair of hands to help with larger graphics too and follow the instructions step by step!

Q. Can I go through a car wash/pressure wash?

A. Do not use a car wash immediately after applying your graphics. We would advise leaving a couple of days for the stickers to fully bond and avoid small tips and points being lifted.

The large rollers on automatic car washes may scratch the vinyl. We do not therefore recommend using a car wash if you want your graphics to last and stay in the best condition.

Hand car wash is the best way to care for your graphics.

Q: What are the graphics made of?

A: All of our vehicle graphics are made using quality long life PVC (vinyl). We use a printer/plotter to cut the shapes/print the designs.  Once the unwanted vinyl is removed from around the graphic that we require, an application paper is applied on top of the design to help keep the various parts in place and help you apply the graphics as smoothly as possible.

Q. Will the graphics damage my paintwork?

A. Vinyl graphics will not damage your cars paintwork, assuming the paintwork is sound to begin with. The vinyl can be removed with no damage to your car.

Q. Can I wax over the graphic?

A. We recommend you do not apply any chemicals to the vinyl. Many chemicals will react with the vinyl and cause it to crack and deteriorate. Using mild soap and water will keep your graphics looking good for many years.

If wax does come into contact with the graphic we recommend using wax remover / degreaser to remove it and then soap and water. To prevent build up of wax around the edges of your graphic, use a cotton bud with the wax remover to remove it.

Q. How do I remove my graphics?

A. If the graphic was recently installed it should peel away relatively easily. To remove any of the sticky surface left behind we recommend using a product such as Autoglym Tar & Glue remover. White spirit also works as a good adhesive remover, and is available from all DIY stores and even the supermarket.

If the graphics have been on the vehicle for some time, the graphics may peel off in small pieces, which can take some time. You may want to try using a hairdryer to soften the adhesive. We find using a wallpaper steam remover is very quick. Using a squeegee or plastic edge to lift the corners of the graphic will help the removal process. Some people recommend using heat gun to soften the adhesive, but this should be used with caution to avoid damaging the paintwork.

For a copy of the removal instructions please click here.

Q. I've just had my car spray painted, how long should I wait before I install my graphics?

A. You should check directly with the body shop that painted the vehicle to see what curing time they recommend.

Q. What conditions are suitable for installing vinyl graphics?

A. It is recommended that graphics be installed when it is warm. If it is too cold (less than 8°c) it will take longer for the adhesive to adhere, you may need to apply extra pressure when applying the graphics to help it to stick. Always ensure your car is dry if you want an instant grab.

Q. Do I need to wait long after I have applied my graphics to show them off?

A. Your car is ready for outdoor exposure straight after applying the graphics, however, it does take 48 hours for the adhesive to bond fully. Do not wash your car until the graphics are fully stuck.

Q. How long will the vinyl graphics last for?

A. All single colour graphics are cut from exterior grade vinyl with a life span of 7 years. Unlaminated printed graphics have an exterior life of up to 2 years. Unlaminated graphics will be affected by UV sun damage which will fade the colour over time. The print is also liable to scratching. Laminating the graphics adds an extra layer of clear vinyl on top of the print to protect from the sun damage and scratching. This extends the life of the vinyl to around 4 years. If you are looking for a long term graphic, the laminated option is highly recommended.

Q: What's the difference between unlaminated and laminated graphics?

A: Unlaminated printed graphics have an exterior life of up to 2 years. Unlaminated graphics will be affected by UV sun damage which will fade the colour over time. The print is also liable to scratching.

Laminated graphics have an extra layer of clear laminate vinyl applied on top of the print to protect it from the sun damage and scratches. This extends the life of the vinyl to around 4 years. If you are looking for a long term graphic, the laminated option is highly recommended.

Q. Are vinyl decals reusable?

A. No, once removed the graphics become stretched and misshapen.

Q. Do you make custom vinyl decals?

A. Yes, we can create or recreate a design for you in either single colour vinyl or printed digital vinyl. Just email us at hello@uniquegraphics.co.uk to discuss your requirements.

Q. How can I have a personalised vinyl decal created?

A. Put all the information we need together in an email and send this to hello@uniquegraphics.co.uk. One of our designers will contact you as soon as possible. DO NOT send attachments over 4MB until authorised to do so. Include details of size, quantity, colours, fonts etc etc.

Q. Do you charge for artwork or set-up charges?

A. For straightforward designs or if the artwork has been supplied 'print ready' there will be no artwork charge. If we need to spend time re-creating artwork from a complex drawing, there will normally be an artwork for this service as it does take some time to get it perfect! The charge includes emailing a copy back to you for approval and any amendments and tweaks that need to be made to get it right.

It is best to contact the design team via hello@uniquegraphics.co.uk for further advice on this.

Q. Will I receive a copy of the original artwork?

A. Yes, we can provide your artwork either on a CD or electronically for use on websites etc. We will also keep hold of a copy of your artwork in case it is needed in the future.

Q. What image formats do you accept for custom decals?

A. We accept most image formats ( jpeg, gif, tiff etc. ). The preferred image formats would be Adobe Illustrator ( .AI) or Encapsulated Postscript (.EPS) or Adobe Photoshop ( .psd ). As images will eventually be printed, the provided artwork must be of high quality and resolution ( put simply the image file should be at least the desired finished size)

Graphics downloaded from web pages will be of a low resolution and unsuitable. They will print pixelated and blocky.

Please do not send large attachments until told to do so.

Q. How long will it take before I receive my vinyl graphics?

A. All our graphics are produced to order. For standard graphics, we aim to send out your graphics within 3 - 5 days of receiving the order.

For made to order to graphics, delivery can depend on the complexity of the artwork produced. More accurate delivery dates will be sent to customers via email.

Q. Do the girly graphics come in one big sheet?

A. No, all the graphics are supplied individually for you to place them however you like. We recommended attaching some masking tape to each graphic when you come to apply them, and planning out your design on the car using the masking tape to hold in place temporarily.

Wall Graphics

Q: What are the wall graphics made from?

A: Our wall stickers are cut from matt vinyl, when applied they give the look of a painted mural. They are easily applied to your walls and will transform a room quickly. When you are ready to alter your room again, all you have to do is peel the design off.

Q: Will the graphics work on textured surfaces?

A: The graphics are best applied to smooth surfaces such as painted wall, windows, mirrors, doors, furniture, appliances etc. If applied over textured wallpaper, small points/tips are likely to lift off. You could try applying some heat to the vinyl to get it to stick down, but there is no guarantee this would work, and it may cause some mess when you come to remove the graphics.

Q: How long should I wait to apply my graphics to newly painted walls?

A: Graphics should be applied to well-dried and cured paint, so we would recommend leaving around 3 weeks. Applying vinyl to a surface which is still drying may cause the adhesive to fail and result in the graphics peeling.

Q: Can i re-use the graphics?

A: Once removed, the design will stretch and lose its shape, so the graphics cannot be re-used.

Q: Can I remove the graphics without damaging my wall?

A: We cannot guarantee some paint will not be removed when removing the stickers, as we do not know the condition of the walls they were applied to. If you follow the instructions below, this should minimise any damage.

Using a hairdryer, heat the vinyl for around 30 seconds to soften the adhesive. Start from a corner so you can lift up an edge.  Start to peel the vinyl away from the wall very slowly, keep moving the hair dryer to apply heat to the vinyl around your starting point, making sure you apply heat  before you peel away any part of the sticker. If your walls are not in the best condition try your best to be patient and go slowly. If in doubt apply heat for a little longer and this will loosen up the adhesive even more.

Q: How long do the wall stickers last?

A: We use high grade vinyl with an interior life of 4 years for printed designs and 6 years for single colour designs. Realistically, your graphics will last much longer than this.

Chrome Badges

Q. What size are the badges?

A. Individual letters are sized slightly differently, but are approximately 2.5 - 3 cm wide and 2.5 - 3 cm high

Q: Do the badges come individually packed?

A: Yes the letters come in individual packets for you to space how you choose.

Q. How do I attach my chrome badge?

A. For detailed fitting instructions please click here

Q: How do they stick?

A: The badges come with a  pre-applied hi-bond 3m tape on the rear. This tape is very long lasting.

Q. How can the chrome badge be removed?

A. The badges can be removed at any time by using some force and a plastic implement to lever it off. If any of the adhesive is left, use a product such as Autoglym Tar & Glue Remover to remove it. White spirit is also good at removing the glue. Removing the badge will not damage the paintwork.

Q. How long will my badge last?

A. Your badge should last for the life of your car

Q. How long will my badge take to be delivered?

A. We aim to send out your order within 3- 5 days.

Q. Are there discounts for large orders?

A. Companies will find our chrome badges a great way to advertise their companies, for example, on their fleet of company cars. We are happy to talk about discounts for bulk buying of badges. Please contact us via hello@uniquegraphics.co.uk.
